The Hartsville-Triasdale County Planning Commission voted unanimously to forward a positive recommendation to the county commission seeking to rezone an 8.3-acre parcel on Highway 25 from A1 to TC1.
Pamela Belcher, the applicant, told the commission she and a partner "have owned this property for about 14 years now" and that they recently "lost a sale on it because the gentleman wanted it as commercial property." Planning staff member Amanda told the commission that the site and lot size met the minimums and that "staff respectfully recommends a positive recommendation to the legislative body."
The chair clarified the planning commission’s role, explaining the body can only recommend and that "only the county commission can rezone property." Commissioner Noller moved to forward the request with a positive recommendation; the motion carried unanimously.
The rezoning will next appear before the county commission for a final decision; the planning commission’s action was advisory.
