Williamston board highlights bond projects, schedules Explore groundbreaking for May 4

The Williamston Community Schools Board of Education heard a detailed bond update, including that the district's new softball facility passed inspection and may be occupied while punch-list work is finished.

During the board's report, the superintendent presented the progress: the field and associated buildings are usable but still require topsoil and seeding, gutter installation (weather permitting) and a hot-water heater for concessions. "For all intents and purposes, done," the superintendent said, while noting several remaining items to complete the project.

The board also confirmed the groundbreaking for the Explore construction project is set for May 4 at 2:30 p.m., weather permitting. Staff described logistical details: the event will be held behind the building at the bus loop and playground, helmets will be provided for photo opportunities and a ceremonial shovel will be used.

Superintendent-level staff said summer work tied to the bond will include flooring, high-school HVAC replacement and parking-lot paving; at the time of the report, those projects remained on schedule. The superintendent told the board the softball project came in two years ahead of the original schedule, allowing additional seasons of use earlier than planned.

The board was directed to the district's website for monthly bond updates and to contact staff with questions, and members were invited to RSVP for the groundbreaking so staff could prepare seating and guest lists.

The board did not take additional action on bond items at the meeting; staff will continue to post monthly updates as work progresses.
