The Gardner School Committee received a facilities report on Monday noting a high volume of maintenance work orders and a preventive boiler 'blow down' schedule at Elm Street School. Committee member Mr. Schwartz said Elm Street’s boiler maintenance is routine but frequent because the building is the district’s oldest.
Schwartz said facilities staff are reviewing plans and bids for a middle-school roof project that he described as a more-than $1,000,000 endeavor; he also referenced planned renovations to the high school locker rooms and athletic-field preparations for spring sports.
Later in the meeting the committee voted to declare a list of district items as excess surplus to allow proper disposal under the general laws of the Commonwealth, a motion moved by Mr. Schwartz and seconded by Mr. Lefrenier that the chair called and the committee approved.
The committee also appointed Dr. Pellegrino as the district representative to the Keystone Collaborative and confirmed the superintendent as the representative to the CAPS collaborative; motions were made and carried without recorded opposition.
Quote: "We will address that list in item 3774 when it comes out," Mr. Schwartz said when flagging the excess-surplus list.
What’s next: Facilities staff will proceed with the bid process and planning for the roof and renovations; surplus items will be disposed per state law after the committee’s declaration.
