District financial staff told the Jefferson West Board that the district faces cash‑balance pressure as the fiscal year closes. The presenter said the district's cash balance stood at roughly 7 percent, below the commonly recommended 12–15 percent, and that by June 30 the district will likely need to move about $300,000 of custodial salaries to capital funds and may need contingency for some health‑insurance expenses.
"By June 30, we will most likely have to move 300 plus thousand dollars of custodial salaries to capital," the staff member said, adding the district will bring recommendations to the May meeting including a five‑ to six‑year operating history and options for addressing shortfalls. The presenter noted most operating costs are personnel (about 80 percent) and urged a line‑by‑line review of expenditures.
Board members acknowledged the seriousness of the numbers and asked staff to return with clear options, including revenue scenarios and potential expenditure adjustments. Staff said they will present proposals at the May meeting and continue multi‑year analysis to stabilize the district's finances.
