The Cedar Falls Community School District board on Monday accepted tentative one‑year contracts for two employee groups and approved a roofing bid for summer projects after officials described the terms and costs to the board.
Administration presented a tentative Teamsters agreement (ratified by bargaining unit members) covering July 1, 2026–June 30, 2027. The contract includes a base wage increase of $0.50 per hour for all classifications, a $0.50 per hour returning‑employee increase, longevity pay of $0.15 per hour for employees with 10–19 years and $0.20 per hour for employees with 20+ years, and a single classification change (groundskeeper from class 3 to class 4). The administration recommended board acceptance; the board voted to approve the agreement.
A separate tentative agreement with Cedar Falls Educational Support Professionals (paraprofessionals and secretaries) for the same contract year was presented and recommended for approval. Terms include a $0.30 per hour base increase for all classifications, a $0.50 per hour returning‑employee increase, and tiered longevity pay starting at year 5. Administration said the CFESP bargaining unit ratified the agreement and the board approved it by voice vote.
On facilities work, the board reviewed roofing projects for Hanson Elementary and North Cedar with a budgeted amount of $343,000. Five bidders responded; Freed Construction (Cedar Falls) submitted the low bid of $243,000, about $100,000 under the budgeted estimate. The board approved awarding the roofing contract to Freed Construction.
Board members asked staffing and contract‑management questions (how many employees in the bargaining unit, whether positions remain filled, and whether classification changes affect pay). Administration said the Teamsters group is about 50 employees and the CFESP group is larger and more difficult to fully staff at times; the CFESP membership and tentative agreement details were discussed before the board moved to approve.
