District presents midyear LCAP showing gradual gains in English learners and declines in suspensions and chronic absenteeism

Los Banos Unified School District officials on Feb. 11 told the school board the district is making incremental academic and social-emotional progress while continuing to target groups that lag state averages.
Doctor Sutton, who presented the district's midyear Local Control and Accountability Plan review, said the district's three-year target includes raising English learner (EL) proficiency from 52.3% to 60%. Sutton reported small year-over-year gains for EL students: a 2.53% increase in English fluency proficiency and gains on state-aligned ELA and math measures.
"Our EL students actually increased their English fluency proficiency by 2.53%," Sutton said, adding that the district has closed some of the distance to the state average on ELA and math.
