Summary
Staff told the board a Bartlett representative and the library will participate in an Arbor Day planting demonstration at Wellington Community Park; organizers discussed site map, ADA parking, sapling availability and outreach/education plans.
Parks staff briefed the board on plans for an upcoming Arbor Day event, including a planting demonstration to be led with a Bartlett representative and participation from the town library.
Billy Cooksey said Bartlett will bring planting equipment and run a community demonstration; organizers discussed blocking part of the Wellville parking lot for ADA access and fallback plans if saplings are unavailable from preferred suppliers. "They were gonna bring some of their equipment, obviously, to plant the trees," Cooksey said, and staff noted Bartlett decided against offering bucket rides because of liability and logistical concerns.
Staff described using the event for community outreach and maintenance education, including a short video or social-media segment demonstrating proper planting and root-ball depth for new trees. Cooksey also noted the Arborscope inventory showed some park trees in poor or dead condition, reinforcing the outreach and maintenance emphasis for the event.
Next steps: staff will confirm sapling availability and finalize the special-event permit map, then publicize the planting demonstration and accessibility plans.
