At its April 8 meeting the Hastings Board examined public bid results for Proposition 1 masonry repairs at the Farragut complex. Construction manager Kevin Sawyer told trustees that 13 bids opened March 24 and that the recommended low bidder passed interviews, scope reviews and the district’s vetting process, including bonding and OSHA checks.
Trustees were informed the Prop 1 masonry scope was intentionally split into two contracts; this package covers roughly half of the overall masonry work (presenters estimated about $600,000 of the full $1.1–$1.2 million pre‑bond masonry budget). The team emphasized that each proposition’s savings and contingencies must stay within that proposition’s budget and cannot be transferred to other propositions.
Board members asked about contingencies and the process for addressing unexpected scope creep once work begins; staff said each contract includes contingencies and the construction manager will return to the board if significant change orders are required. The business‑items motion that the board passed during the meeting included the distributed bid documents.
