Presenter says staff are background-checked as CDCC schedules March 10 CDBG presentations

A presenter told the CDCC she took over the organization less than a year ago and is overhauling its systems to meet city requirements, including background checks and fingerprinting for staff who work with children.
"I took over the organization less than a year ago," the presenter said, noting the group is cleaning up administrative systems. "Nobody works 1 on 1 with any child. . . . Any of those that work with children are background checked and fingerprinted." The presenter added that services operate out of neighborhood community centers rather than inside elementary schools.
The committee chair warned applicants that city staff will request documentation during audits. "If it's filed, then our city staff, when they go audit you or all of our program[s] that we fund, they're gonna ask for this," the chair said, urging applicants to organize materials ahead of any submission.
Committee members asked for clarifications about service locations. In response to a question from Member Kim, the presenter said the organization focuses on the Maple and Garnet neighborhoods and operates community centers "east of Lemon" that serve areas around Maple Elementary and adjacent blocks. Member Blaine asked whether after-school programs ran at Garnet and Maple elementary schools; the presenter reiterated the services are at neighborhood community centers, not inside the schools, and described the Garnet neighborhood as a dense four-by-two–block area bordering the city of Placentia.
The chair closed the session by reminding committee members to review applications and prepare for the next meeting. "The next meeting of the CDCC will be on March 10 at 06:30 here in the Council Chambers, and we will hear CDBG request presentations by the city departments," the chair said. The meeting was adjourned at 7:59 p.m.
Next steps: the committee will hear city department presentations on Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) requests at the March 10 meeting; applicants were advised to have audit and compliance documents ready before filing.
