The Orange County Transportation Authority presented a short e-bike safety video at the Aliso Viejo City Council meeting and encouraged the city and residents to share the material and take a related safety pledge.
"My name is Peter Sutherland. I'm the active transportation coordinator at OCTA," said Peter Sutherland, who introduced the video and the agencys e-bike outreach work across the county. The presentation explained the video was intended as an "evergreen" safety message covering helmet use, passenger rules and stopping distance.
The video narrator, identifying as "Hamilton," used a comedic, mock-documentary tone to illustrate common e-bike risks and concluded with a call to action directing viewers to octa.net/ebike. Sutherland said OCTA worked with the Department of Education to distribute the video to local schools and encouraged council and residents to spread the material. He also said people who take the safety pledge are entered in a raffle for a $100 gift card for a limited time.
Council members and attendees asked about school distribution and how the raffle works; Sutherland said OCTA has shared the video with PTAs and will distribute through its website and YouTube channel.
The council thanked OCTA for the presentation and for providing an educational resource for local e-bike users.
