Centennial council to review 11 District 2 applicants, nominates Amy Tharp as mayor pro tem

The Centennial City Council on Feb. 3 set a process to fill a vacant District 2 seat and nominated a permanent mayor pro tem.
Council announced that 11 candidates applied for the District 2 vacancy after applications closed in January. Rather than appointing a small subcommittee, council members agreed the full council will review all applicant materials and make interview selections collectively. Miss Lovelace will distribute application materials to council members at the end of the Feb. 3 meeting. Council scheduled a special meeting to finalize which applicants to interview and to agree on the set of interview questions; staff proposed Feb. 12 or Feb. 18 as possible dates for interviews and asked council to confirm conflicts.
Council members debated whether to use a uniform list of questions (as was done in 2018) or to tailor follow‑ups for individual candidates. Several members favored a mostly standardized set of 3–4 core questions with the option for brief follow‑ups. Miss Lovelace said council will revisit and finalize the question list at the February special meeting and reminded members each applicant in prior cycles had a set introduction and timed question period.
In separate action, Council member Amy Tharp was nominated to be permanent Mayor Pro Tem; council will place a resolution appointing Tharp on the Feb. 17 consent agenda and expects to swear in the Mayor Pro Tem at the March 3 meeting. The council discussed logistics for interviews (length of introductions, number of interview slots, and whether applicants should be present for the full interview session). Staff indicated the site plan/plat processes and other procedural steps for agenda items will continue in parallel.
Next steps: council members will review applicant materials provided by staff, attend the special meeting to select interviewees and finalize questions, and proceed with interviews on the agreed date. The Mayor Pro Tem appointment will appear on the Feb. 17 consent agenda for formal action.
