Youth commissioners report hygiene drives, care packages and outreach across Riverside County

District commissioners reported a string of volunteer and outreach efforts across Riverside County at the youth advisory commission meeting.
A District 1 co-commissioner said the district’s equity and resources committee partnered with local businesses and collected “over a 100 articles of clothing” distributed in downtown Riverside and that volunteers had contributed more than 200 hours across 17 community events. The co-commissioner said the district allocated its remaining budget to support committee events.
Carlos Silvera, secretary for District 2, described recent participation in a Corona community cleanup on January 24 and a youth engagement day on January 29 that included job-shadow opportunities. Silvera said District 2’s homeless outreach committee has produced “around 120 care packages” and is finalizing distribution plans to local homeless centers. He also outlined senior digital-literacy efforts and a planned literacy event with the Eastville Library on March 28 (planning stage).
A District 5 co-commissioner said District 5 has supported Youth in Government Day and other community programs, named partnerships with local health and university presenters, and reported that the district received “over 100 donations” for a mental health donation drive to support outreach and programming.
Commissioners noted other volunteer opportunities and events including a Fire and Ice chili cook-off and community-run events. The chair said there were no public comments during the meeting and reminded members the next commission meeting is May 21, 2026, at 5:30 p.m.
