RDC hears updates on utilities, rail classification and Bell Largo ribbon cutting

At the Feb. 25 meeting, Matt Reardon of MCR Partners summarized several infrastructure and development items affecting LaPorte County.
Reardon said the RDC attorney was attending a Michigan City Sanitary District meeting that evening to discuss the transfer of utilities related to the 300N project. He reported that JBC Rail has received Private Carrier notification from the Federal Railroad Administration and that CSX will notify customers about Kingsbury Industrial Park’s classification to improve rail connectivity to CN.
Reardon also announced a March 13 ribbon cutting for the Bell Largo assisted‑living facility near 39N and the Indiana Toll Road. He said LaPorte County provided $67,000 in incentives for off‑site and on‑site roadway work related to that project and that the city annexed the area following utility extension. Reardon said his team will follow up on a JPR study of extending utilities to the intersection of 39N and US‑20 for future development.
On the 35/State Road 35–I‑94 TIF area, Reardon said Michigan City is pursuing grant funding to extend water and sewer infrastructure that could provide utilities for a proposed Cobblestone Hotel; he added the developer has offered a land swap to INDOT but has not received a response. No formal votes were taken on the infrastructure items; the commission received the updates for planning and coordination.
