Summary
At the Feb. 25 meeting the commission approved regular claims totaling $9,189.98, accepted a treasurer's report showing TIF balances, and heard that JBC Rail repaid $58,200 of a $525,000 loan; commissioners also noted unusually high gas delivery charges and discussed propane as a lower‑cost option.
The LaPorte County Redevelopment Commission approved the monthly treasurer's report and claims at its Feb. 25 meeting. The treasurer reported TIF account balances of $493,934 (421/I‑94 #1), $0 (421/I‑94 #2), $177,465 (KIDC) and $9,413 (39 North). Mary Jane Thomas reported that JBC Rail repaid $58,200 of a $525,000 loan; the remaining balance was stated as $466,800.
Claims submitted totaled $9,189.98 and included MCR Partners professional services, legal publications, a pump evaluation and electrical service charges. The commission approved claims by TIF area in separate motions: Kingsbury Industrial Park (KIDC) claims of $1,000; US 421 #1 claims of $7,189.98; and 39 North claims of $1,000.
Commissioner Mark Parkman flagged a high NIPSCO gas delivery charge relative to low consumption for a site, and Commissioner Brett Kessler suggested investigating propane as a possibly lower‑cost alternative. No formal procurement action resulted from that discussion at the meeting; staff were not directed to adopt an alternative fuel source during the session.
All financial items and claims were approved by voice vote; the motions were recorded as carried unanimously among the board members present.
