The council adopted resolutions to add an ambulance operator classification and to amend the salary schedule to include a division chief assigned to administrative duties for the ambulance program.
Human Resources Director Tanya Nowerhase said the city will create 12 full‑time and 6 part‑time, non‑represented limited‑service ambulance operator positions with an hourly salary range of $18.50 to $22.49. Full‑time ambulance operators will be enrolled in CalPERS and receive city medical contributions; the role is intended as an entry level position with potential promotional pathways into firefighting roles. The division chief position will be added to the master salary schedule when assigned to administration to meet CalPERS requirements and provide oversight of suppression, EMS and the ambulance program.
Funding note: Staff said the positions and division chief were appropriated in the FY 26–27 budget and that there was no additional fiscal impact from adopting the classification.
Vote: Council approved the resolutions 5‑0.
