Seymour board approves application for state SIF grant to extend sewer, water on Derby Avenue

The Board of Selectmen voted unanimously to authorize the town to apply for a State Department of Economic and Community Development SIF grant to pay for sewer and water extensions on Derby Avenue.
First Selectwoman said the project was aimed at promoting economic development where water and sewer are needed. “This is to promote a business that will be going in on that road,” the chair said, referencing the area near Daddio’s properties and the side of Derby Avenue not at the house side.
Board members moved the resolution as written and approved sending the application. During discussion a member asked what SIF stands for; the chair and others referred to it as the Community Investment Fund. The motion to move the resolution was made and seconded on the record and carried 6-0.
What’s next: Town staff will complete the grant application to the state and pursue grant funding if awarded; board members emphasized the project’s role in supporting local economic development.
