Council honors community groups and bids farewell to assistant city manager

Council presented a Women’s History Month proclamation to local Soroptimist members; Denise Foshee, the chapter president, described scholarships, mentoring and the club’s 52 members. Randall Martinez was recognized with a certificate after receiving a USC Latino Alumni Visionary Award; he told the council the gala raised nearly $1 million for scholarships and described his civic work and firm (Cordoba Corporation).
The council also honored Shannon Delong, the assistant city manager, who is leaving for a city manager position in Cypress. Council members praised Delong’s institutional knowledge and gave her a lifetime swim pass and other gifts; a representative from Supervisor Hahn’s office, Ivan Sulik, presented a county plaque in recognition of Delong’s eight years of service.
The mayor and council members offered personal remarks and the chamber paused for a moment of silence early in the meeting for two students injured in a recent traffic accident.
