The Zion Elementary School District No. 6 Board of Education voted May 19 to approve Superintendent Julious Lawson's employment contract and to ratify an administrator contract for Dr. April Miller, the district's incoming director of human resources.
President Margie Taylor called for a motion to approve the superintendent's contract; Robert Surano moved and Denise Lear seconded. The board's roll-call vote was recorded as aye from Robert Surano, Denise Lear, Jacqueline San Diego and Margie Taylor, with no nays. The motion carried.
Later in the meeting the board approved an administrator employment contract for Dr. April Miller, effective July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2026. Denise Lear moved the contract; Jacqueline San Diego seconded and the board approved the motion by roll call.
The approvals followed a closed-session discussion the board held earlier that evening under the personnel exception to the Illinois Open Meetings Act (5 ILCS 120/2(c)(1)). The board entered closed session at 7:59 p.m. and returned to open session at 8:59 p.m., after which the contracts were approved.
No contract dollar amounts or additional personnel terms were specified in the open-session motions recorded in the transcript; the motions were described as "as presented." The board did not receive public comment on either contract during the open meeting.
The meeting adjourned at 9:01 p.m.
