Millville approves Pleasant Drive grant application and contract award, CFO certifies $628,000

The Millville City Council approved a grant-extension application and authorized a contract to reconstruct Pleasant Drive after the city’s chief financial officer certified available funding.

Council members voted to approve submission of a LAAEX 3 grant extension application with the New Jersey Department of Transportation for Pleasant Drive roadway improvements and subsequently authorized the contract award for the same project. Chief Financial Officer Tricia McGarry certified funds totaling $628,000 and $28,570.88 for the reconstruction work.

The grant-extension resolution passed with recorded roll-call votes and one abstention. When the council considered the contract award, the measure passed on roll call with four yes votes and one abstention recorded; the chief financial officer’s certification was presented on the record before the vote. Speaking after the vote, the presiding official said the project was “finally getting done,” thanked those involved and expressed appreciation for staff and contractors who worked on the procurement and funding steps.

Council members had previously voted to remove the Pleasant Drive contract from the table so the items could be considered together. The package before the council combined a grant-application step (to extend the award timeline) and a contract award; the council’s votes authorized both the application and the contract execution as presented.

Next steps: staff will execute the contract and proceed with scheduling construction and coordination with grant administrators, subject to the usual pre-construction approvals and contractor scheduling.
