Huntington Beach council authorizes settlement talks in Grant Parks lawsuit

According to the city attorney's statement, the action came on a motion by Councilmember Grull and a second by Councilmember Williams and was approved 5 in favor, none against; Mayor Pro Tem Twining and Councilwoman Vandermark were recorded absent.
City staff described the direction as an opportunity to end further legal fees and related expenses by pursuing a negotiated settlement. Any settlement agreement, the city attorney said, would be returned to the council at a future meeting for review and approval.
The council did not disclose settlement terms at the meeting. The vote authorized staff to begin negotiations with counsel for the state auditor on the case; the stated goal is to arrive at a settlement that could reduce ongoing litigation costs.
Next steps: the city attorney will negotiate with opposing counsel and bring any proposed agreement back to the council for public consideration and a recorded vote.
