The district’s attendance rate rose to 94.8 percent from 94.4 percent last year; the increase was projected to add about $1 million in Local Control Funding Formula revenue. District staff also reported recognition of a $1,900,000 state grant to purchase electric school buses; the grant will be recognized this year and recorded as a capital outlay expense. Secondary math curriculum purchases were moved into the current year (about $3 million in books and supplies), increasing near‑term expenses.
Multiyear projections still showed deficit spending: staff presented estimates of roughly $20 million of deficit this fiscal year, nearly $30 million next year driven by timing of textbook purchases, and a decline thereafter. Officials stressed the district’s sizable reserve and said staff would continue to use one‑time funding and vacancy management to avoid abrupt layoffs while monitoring state revenue updates in April.
The board subsequently adopted the positive certification for the second interim financial report in a roll‑call vote.
