Aliso Viejo council names SCAG delegate, shares library and community updates

The Aliso Viejo City Council nominated and approved councilmember Garrett as the city’s primary delegate and Councilmember Tim as the alternate to the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) general assembly on May 7–8 in Palm Desert.
Councilmembers discussed past experience with SCAG and agreed the appointments would give the city representation on regional matters. The motion to appoint Garrett as delegate and Tim as alternate passed on the council’s voice vote.
In other business, acting city manager Anne (staff) announced winter recreation registration, a summer camp registration opening on Feb. 6 and an Aliso Viejo Ranch rental showcase on Feb. 1. Councilmember Tiffany Ackley said the library renovation is funded by a state grant and the county—rather than the city—owns and operates the library; she said a certificate of occupancy is expected soon and that books will return from storage six to eight weeks after occupancy is issued.
Councilmembers also noted a new Kaiser Permanente facility recently opened nearby and a successful families market at the Boys & Girls Club. The council reiterated it is actively recruiting to fill the city manager position with a goal of roughly six months to complete the process.
The council set its next regular meeting for Feb. 4, 2026.
