"We convened a process where executive directors and staff here at the district actually went out and spoke in person to every school principal today," Ochoa said, describing the district's effort to ensure principals and site staff can give families clear, up‑to‑date information and know how to protect students' rights.
Ochoa told trustees the district also briefed after‑school providers and staff who interact with families, noting more than 1,500 children attend after‑school programs across the district daily and emphasizing the need for a coordinated response. He said the district plans daily check‑ins if enforcement occurs, and intends to coordinate with the county office, local police departments and county rapid‑response lines.
Ochoa referenced a San Mateo County press conference that publicized a rapid‑response hotline and county assurances that county services and staff will not assist immigration enforcement. The superintendent framed the county hotline and county leadership as an important part of the safety net for families in the district.
Trustees and staff said the district will route families and partners to a combination of web resources, an email address and the county hotline, and will prioritize giving school offices clear answers to avoid inconsistent messages from staff members.
