Board hears branding guide, approves logo standardization with small edits

Missa Guillen and design lead Edgar explained that principals, teachers, students and parents served on subcommittees to refine logos so the district could secure trademarks and proceed with a planned wayfinding effort. Staff emphasized that the new standards are intended for future purchases and not to force immediate replacement of uniforms already in use.
Staff proposed an athletics provision requiring that school-sponsored branded athletic uniforms include at least 50% of each school’s designated primary colors to maintain consistent district branding. Trustees asked that Everett Alvarez be offered a circular logo variant (including year established) to match other sites; staff agreed to send the requested alternate to the design team prior to final consent approval.
Why it matters: the board said copyrighting and standardizing logos will reduce legal risk for the district and enable coordinated site signage and future contractor work on the wayfinding project, which staff said is estimated at roughly $1,000,000.
Next steps: staff will finalize the Alvarez circle logo addition and bring the item forward on the consent calendar for formal approval alongside minor edits to the athletics language.
