Paramount Unified approves consent items and policy updates; adult meal price increase passes 3–1

Paramount Unified’s board handled routine business Aug. 13 with unanimous approvals on consent and multiple action items, and approved an adult meal price increase on a 3–1 vote.

Consent items 9.1–9.35 were approved by a single motion and passed 4–0. Action items 10.1 (pupil and personnel services policy), 10.2 (new graphic-arts course for grades 6–8) and a set of business-service resolutions (10.3) were each moved, seconded and passed 4–0. The board also approved authorization to increase the revolving cash fund (10.4) 4–0.

Item 10.5, a proposal to increase adult meal prices, produced discussion from trustees and passed with a 3–1 vote. The motion was moved by Carrentes and seconded by Martinez. Vice President Sonia de Leon raised concerns about the cost pressures on staff and suggested seeking grants or alternatives before increasing prices: "If it's possible to find a grant ... it's getting pricey," she said. Trustees noted that district meals already provide value; one trustee said eating for $12 a day "is pretty good." The transcript records a final tally of 3–1 but does not list every trustee’s individual recorded vote in full detail.

Item 10.6 was pulled from the agenda and will return for future consideration.
