The Mission Viejo City Council recognized Jan. 27, 2026, as International Holocaust Remembrance Day and invited community representatives to the dais during its Jan. 27 meeting.
Mayor Wendy Bakhnam presented a city proclamation noting the United Nations General Assembly resolution that designated Jan. 27 as the day of commemoration for victims of the Holocaust. The mayor invited a Rabbi and guest Anne Jenner, identified in the meeting as a Holocaust survivor, to accept the proclamation.
The Rabbi thanked the city for recognizing the day and framed Holocaust remembrance as an educational obligation, particularly for young people. He linked the commemoration to Jewish calendar observances and described the role of community leaders in preserving memory. Anne Jenner accepted the city’s recognition and declined extended remarks.
Council members and attendees joined survivors and community members for a photograph; the mayor closed that portion of the meeting by inviting a moment of silence later in the agenda to honor Holocaust Remembrance Day and victims of recent international violence.
