Council receives midyear budget update and approves FY 2025–26 adjustments

At the March 3 meeting the La Palma City Council received a midyear budget update and approved a resolution amending the FY 2025–26 budget.
Deputy City Manager Joe Cisneros summarized revenue updates and expenditure adjustments driven by staffing changes, higher legal expenses and the rescheduling of the Festival of Nations. Staff reported the general fund is projected to end the prior fiscal year with a surplus and summarized updated projections showing revenues near $15.5 million and expenditures just under $15.0 million, projecting a midyear surplus. Cisneros noted several line‑item changes, including $50,000 for increased legal services and approximately $54,000 in additional appropriations tied to having two Festival of Nations events in one fiscal year.
Staff also described other fund adjustments, use of consultant contracts to cover vacancies, and a one‑time closeout cost of about $100,000 for a citywide median project. The council voted unanimously to receive and file the midyear report and to adopt the resolution amending the budget as proposed.
Next steps: staff will return later in the year with recommendations for the use of prior‑year surplus funds and implement the approved midyear adjustments in accounting records.
