The council took time at the Jan. 13 meeting to recognize the Miss Orange program and to hear a series of community presentations about Orange Homegrown, the city—arm and sustainability outreach.
Miss Orange 2025 Kylie Seppala thanked the mayor and council for supporting the scholarship and ambassador program and described community events and volunteer activities. "The support of you all and everyone in the city is so important," she told the dais.
Leaders and volunteers from Orange Homegrown described 15 years of farmers-market operations, scholarship awards, volunteer hours and an education farm that donates more than 10,000 pounds of citrus annually to local organizations. Market manager Nikki Patino asked the council to tour the farmers market and said the program accepts EBT and market-match incentives to increase food access.
Members of the Orange Sustainability Group briefed the council about state laws restricting single-use plastic and foam and thanked the city for signing letters to raise awareness. Staff and volunteers said they will continue outreach to businesses and residents to help with compliance and education.
These recognitions were noncontroversial and were followed by routine consent items.
