Assistant superintendent reports small Naviance/PowerSchool transcript incident; district notified colleges and families

Dr. Jason Carter, assistant superintendent for curriculum, instruction, personnel and technology support, told the board the district identified a small data‑handling incident involving the PowerSchool/Naviance multiple transcript manager that incorrectly reassigned some student transcript information to the wrong applications.

"There were 2 students that were affected," Dr. Carter said, and he added that further investigation showed "there was only 1 student who had another student's transcript attached to that application for multiple universities." He said school counselors identified the students and contacted every college and university the students had applied to to confirm or correct application packets.

Dr. Carter said the district sent notifications to families both by email and by traditional mail, removed incorrect data from the district systems and ensured corrected packets were supplied to institutions. He said district staff worked with Mr. Bongiovi to file a state privacy complaint form with the district's chief privacy officer and that the district is awaiting any investigation conducted by either the district or the vendors (PowerSchool/Naviance).

In the same report Dr. Carter also reviewed the upcoming New York State assessment windows (ELA April 14–15; math April 21–22; grade‑5 and grade‑8 science on April 28), described plans for makeup testing and outlined professional‑development work with BOCES and substitute‑orientation dates. He encouraged families to look for building‑level notifications about makeups and logistics.

No widespread compromise of records was reported in the meeting; administrators described the incident as small, corrective actions completed and investigations pending.
