RBUSD introduces new administrators and names Allison Garland assistant superintendent

At its Aug. 8 meeting the Redondo Beach Unified School District board introduced a slate of new administrators joining the district for the 2024–25 school year and announced that the board supported Superintendent Dr. Wesley's appointment of Dr. Allison Garland as assistant superintendent of educational services.

Dr. Wesley said Dr. Garland brings more than 26 years in education — including roles as teacher, site administrator, director and assistant superintendent — most recently serving six years as an assistant superintendent in Montebello Unified. Dr. Wesley told the board Dr. Garland holds a bachelor degree in chemistry, a master's in educational psychology and a doctorate in education from the University of Arizona and will begin with RBUSD on Wednesday, Aug. 14.

The board and superintendent also welcomed several principals and assistant principals: Jeff Winkler (professional learning director), Brian Stanley (new Jefferson principal), Erica Lee (Alta Vista principal), Stephanie Lee (assistant principal, Washington Elementary), Alexis Okihara (incoming assistant principal, Paris Middle School), Christina Sunada (assistant principal, Redondo Union High School), and Marvin Brown (principal, Redondo Union High School). Each appointee offered brief remarks about priorities such as student-centered learning, community and the transition into their new roles.

New student board member Keeley Gould introduced herself and previewed fall student activities including freshman orientation (Aug. 16) and a "hello dance" on Aug. 24. Superintendent Dr. Wesley and board members thanked administrators, staff and volunteers and highlighted district academic data shared in the meeting, including AP participation and a reported 99% graduation rate.

The board approved routine minutes and consent items before moving on to action items.
