Summary
The board approved a 10¢ increase to student meal prices to comply with federal averaging requirements and received informational presentations on raising the informal-quote procurement threshold to $10,000 and on posting certain meeting materials online (no action taken on policies).
The Norman Public Schools Board voted to approve a minimum 10¢ increase to student meal prices for the 2026–27 school year, a step administrators said is needed to comply with the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act average-meal-price requirement. Tyler Jones told the board the federal average is $4.16; current district prices are $3.30 for elementary and $3.45 for secondary meals. "There is an allowance for us to increase the meal price by 10¢, which is the minimum amount we can increase," Jones said.
Board members moved, seconded and approved the proposed price adjustment by roll call. District staff said the modest increase is intended to help meet federal thresholds while minimizing impacts on families.
At the same time, administration presented two policy items for information only. Tyler Jones outlined a proposed change to Board Policy 2006 (fiscal management) that would raise the informal-quote threshold for routine purchases from the current $75–$3,000 band to $10,000, citing neighboring districts that use the higher threshold and saying the change would reduce staff burden and allow focus on larger procurements.
Haley Dreesen reviewed proposed amendments to Policy 1011 (board meeting agenda preparation and dissemination) that would require posting certain documents and policy proposals online at the time the meeting agenda is posted, excluding confidential district contracts, and making those materials available under the Oklahoma Open Records Act. Both policy proposals were informational at this meeting; no policy votes were taken.
