Resident raises herbicide-spray safety concerns; town staff tell contractor to stop

At the Sept. 16 Town of Cramerton meeting, resident Mickey Jenkins raised safety concerns about herbicide and pesticide spraying by town-contracted landscape workers. Jenkins described liquid spray drifting toward homes, grass being killed around playgrounds and river outfalls, and a worker driving a four-wheeler through a spray plume near the gym path.
Town Manager David Pugh told the Board in his Manager’s Report that the town’s landscaping contractor had been instructed to stop spraying herbicides and that staff member Eric Smallwood would follow up. Commissioner Abernathy thanked the Town Manager for a quick response.
