Students, alumni and teachers spoke at public comment about SkillsUSA’s impact; trustees unanimously approved conference attendance and competitions for 2024–25 and thanked students for their presentations.
Dozens of SkillsUSA students, alumni and instructors told the Stockton Unified board how participation in the career‑technical student organization helped them develop leadership, career skills and confidence. Board members responded by approving conference attendance and competitions for the 2024–25 school year.
Speakers included SkillsUSA instructors and student leaders from Monroe, Chavez, Weber Institute and other schools who described competitive successes, fundraising and career readiness benefits. One presenter cited district figures for SkillsUSA participation last year—3,753 members, 779 students at regionals and 216 at the state conference—and noted 16 students attended nationals; speakers thanked the district and the SUSD 1852 Foundation for travel and meal support.
After public comment the board moved to adopt agenda item 12.6—approval of SkillsUSA conference attendance and competition participation for 2024–25. Trustees voted unanimously to approve the request.
Trustees and the superintendent praised the students for their presentations and encouraged continued district support for CTE and CTSO opportunities.
