State Homeland Security runs plane-crash drill at Saratoga County airport; committee hears manager update

A committee member reported April 8 that the State Department of Homeland Security conducted a multiagency emergency drill at the Saratoga County airport hangar simulating a small plane crash, and committee members said the exercise gave valuable practice for local responders.
The committee member said the drill involved the county emergency management office, the sheriff’s office, fire departments, EMS and other first responders and lasted roughly three to four hours. He credited Neil, the airport manager, for playing “a central role getting it set up,” and said the state was very pleased with the response and coordination. The committee member also said action items emerged from the exercise and that staff are working on them.
In other business, the committee confirmed that the airport restaurant proprietor plans an official opening on May 1 and that the committee intends to hold its next meeting at the restaurant, allowing the proprietor a few minutes to describe plans for menus and hours. Committee members suggested promoting the restaurant opening on county social media and noted that the airport’s meeting room has seen steady use; staff said Neil manages scheduling.
The committee adjourned after completing business for the afternoon.
