Eden Elementary robotics team demonstrates season, highlights teamwork and problem-solving

The board heard a spotlight presentation from Eden Elementary at the opening of its meeting. The school’s principal thanked the board for the opportunity to serve this year and introduced Mrs. Takach to speak about the school’s robotics program.
"I had never done robotics. I had no idea what I was in for, but I didn’t want the kids to lose out on the opportunity to experience the robotics program," Mrs. Takach said, describing how parents and other coaches helped the team learn and improve over the season.
Mrs. Takach told the board that competitions emphasize collaboration and problem solving: teams trade tips, judge creativity and interview students as part of scoring. She described match timing — contests can be rapid, with a typical match lasting one minute and teams rotating drivers every 30 seconds — and said students are judged on gameplay, creativity and notebooks documenting their work.
During the demonstration, students operated their robots and explained last-minute design changes, such as adding claws to a base robot template known as "Kiwi." Mrs. Takach also noted robotics is expensive and that fundraising and community support were essential to fielding a team this year.
School leaders said the next seasonal game is released April 24, when teams will learn objectives for the following year. The board and audience were invited to see devices and student demonstrations after the remarks.
