Amber Colmer said she opened Lively Little Ones, now the only daycare center in Fayetteville, and credited the West Virginia Small Business Development Center with providing business planning and financial-projection support that helped launch the operation.
Amber Colmer, owner of Lively Little Ones, said she launched the Fayetteville daycare after working in other centers and running a home day care when her son was younger. "My name is Amber Colmer, and I'm the owner of Lively Little Ones," she said.
Colmer told attendees she moved from a home-based provider to a licensed center and that Lively Little Ones "is now the only day care center in Fayetteville," a change she said helps fill a local childcare gap and assist more families. She described getting help from the owner of A Place To Grow, who introduced her to Shannon Mitchell at the West Virginia Small Business Development Center.
"Childcare businesses like Amber's and Little Lively ones are so important because they serve local families and the workforce," said Shannon Mitchell, regional coordinator for the Eastern Region of the West Virginia Small Business Development Center. Mitchell said the SBDC supported Colmer with business planning and financial projections and provided other resources to help launch the business.
Colmer recommended the SBDC to others starting childcare businesses. "Yes. Absolutely. It is so helpful because there's a lot of unknown things, especially if you're not used to being a business owner, and they are right there by your side for whatever you might need," she said.
The exchange highlights a local example of how small-business assistance programs can support childcare expansion, a common policy focus given workforce and family needs. No formal actions or funding awards were announced during the remarks.
