Trustees appoint Manuela Galvan to fill Trustee Area 1 vacancy

The Travis Unified School District governing board appointed Manuela Galvan to fill the Trustee Area 1 vacancy during its Sept. 9 meeting, seating her after an affirmative vote and administering the oath of office.

Galvan, who said she has been stationed at Travis Air Force Base for three years and volunteers as a key support liaison for her husband’s contingency response squadron, told trustees she wanted to represent base families and increase her involvement with district schools. She described volunteer work with Operation Homefront and other community events and said she has a daughter at Golden West and a son at Vanden High School.

Board members asked about Galvan’s experience with budgets and administrative responsibilities; Galvan said her most recent paid work was in human resources and that she is willing to learn district fiscal processes. Several trustees commended her willingness to serve and noted she had previously interviewed for an earlier opening.

Board president called for a motion to appoint Galvan; a trustee moved and another seconded. The motion carried (three affirmative votes required and obtained). After the vote Galvan was sworn in and took her seat.

The appointment fills the vacancy created by the resignation of Trustee Tierra Ekstrom on July 18, 2025. The board’s action restores a full complement of trustees and does not alter any standing board policies; the district will treat Galvan as the seated representative for Trustee Area 1 and she began participating in board business immediately following the oath.

Next steps: the district will include Galvan in routine committee assignments and board communications, and she will participate in upcoming agenda items and committee briefings.
