Committee on Committees approves Board of Equalization slate; mayor reports Solid Waste Authority resignations

The Sumner County Committee on Committees unanimously approved a grouped slate of appointments to the County Board of Equalization at its April 13 meeting and heard from the County Mayor about two resignations from the Solid Waste Authority and a forthcoming 10-year plan.

The committee moved to group and approve appointments naming Oliver Berry, Judy Bell, Chris Charlton, Jonathan Hayes, Terry Nichols and James Ramsey to the board. "When you get somebody that wants to serve and does a good job over the years, I strongly recommend each one of them for their service," the County Mayor said during the report. A motion to group and approve was made and seconded; members responded "Aye," and there were no recorded votes in opposition.

The mayor also told the committee that Solid Waste Authority members Gary Zao and Presley Powers had resigned because they moved out of the area. The mayor said the authority is preparing to embark on a 10-year plan and encouraged committee members to attend Solid Waste Authority meetings if they wished to be involved in that work. The mayor said he expected to bring at least one candidate for the Solid Waste Authority to the committee next month.

Before the vote, a member asked whether Terry Nichols's resume could be included in the packet; the chair said she would try to add it. The meeting concluded after a final motion and second.

The committee did not take additional formal action on Solid Waste Authority staffing beyond noting the resignations and the mayor's intent to present candidates at a future meeting. The committee adjourned after approving the appointments.
