Trustees create early-childhood education subcommittee after appeals from preschool teachers

Teachers and Head Start staff highlighted issues including compensation, safety, parent accountability, supports for English learners and students with high behavior needs. "As teachers of our youngest and most diverse and most vulnerable students, we need our issues, ideas and concerns to be centered," said preschool teacher Erica Richard.
Trustees discussed the role of the committee — monitoring kindergarten readiness, aligning resources, and strengthening partnerships with community early-learning providers — and then voted to establish the subcommittee with Vice President Shauna Priest as chair, Clerk Martin and President Colon serving as members. The committee is charged with focused oversight on early literacy, TK expansion alignment, and equitable access to early learning programs.
