The Caroline County Animal Welfare and Control Hearing Board voted on Aug. 22 to euthanize a dog named Diamond following a hearing in Denton.
Director of Animal Control Jacob Andrew opened the meeting at 6:00 p.m. and heard from dog owner Dawn Harris, who participated virtually and pleaded for Diamond to be returned after her jail sentence ends. Caroline County Animal Control Officer Diana Greenwood presented the incident report and described Diamond’s behavior while impounded; board members questioned Greenwood about the report and the dog’s demeanor.
After deliberation, Director Andrew moved to euthanize Diamond; Deputy Cody Rzucidlo seconded the motion. According to the board record, "all in favor, one opposed," and the motion passed by majority vote at about 6:30 p.m. Each board member gave reasons for their vote on the record. Director Andrew informed Harris she has 30 days to appeal the board’s decision to the Circuit Court if she wishes to contest it. The meeting was adjourned at approximately 6:40 p.m.
