Commissioner reports new park well, broadband limits and pause on materials-management funding

At the March 25 meeting of the Oscoda County Board of Commissioners, Commissioner Jackie Bondar provided an update on the county park and related regional issues.
Bondar said the recently installed park well is producing about 60 gallons per minute at a depth of 95 feet and that park staff will soon connect the bathhouse. She said quotes are pending for other site work and that M33/Point Broadband previously ran fiber to the park but that Spectrum cannot provide service. An earlier Spectrum assessment estimated the cost to bring service at roughly $15,000; commissioners discussed coax as an alternative to improve signal strength.
Bondar also reported that a Materials Management Planning meeting was canceled after state and federal funds were frozen and that the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy (EGLE) currently had no money to offer for that planning effort. Commissioners discussed recycling status for Greenwood Township and noted Oscoda County’s financial stake as a one-third owner of the M.O.A. Landfill.
Commissioners requested further follow-up and coordination with county administrators and outside vendors to determine service options and next steps for park infrastructure and recycling planning.
