Volunteer trail crew details recent repairs, seeks more volunteers

Les Wilberg, introduced to the board as chair of the volunteer trail crew, described recent projects across Emery County, including heavy rock removal at Fix It Pass, water-bar construction, gabion installations and drainage work at the Price River overlook and Goodwater Rim Trail.
"We spent two days there," Les Wilberg said, describing collaboration with the Forest Service, the Bureau of Land Management, county road crews and Emery Telcom. He showed photos and explained that volunteers used jackhammers, dozer support and gabion baskets to stabilize areas where rain and runoff had washed trails away.
Wilberg said that much of the work is hand-built in remote locations and that the crew coordinates specialists for equestrian, motorized and hiking trails. He emphasized partnerships: "All it takes is somebody to take the bull by the horns and make it go," and thanked county staff and private partners for grant support and equipment access.
Wilberg asked interested residents to complete the county volunteer form so county staff, BLM and Forest Service partners can review and assign volunteers to projects. He also previewed upcoming work on the Black Dragon segment near Joe's Valley and repair needs for culverts and troughs.
The presentation ended with commissioners thanking Wilberg and the volunteers for their work; the commission did not take formal action on the presentation. The county will continue coordinating with federal agencies and local partners on trail maintenance and volunteer recruitment.
