Mayor: bridge paving expected in April if weather cooperates; specialized backfill and riprap to follow schedule

Mayor Jim Beagley gave a multi-step progress report on the town bridge project, detailing poured wing walls, a five-day curing window, scheduled waterproofing and geotextile placement, and a planned import of specialized granular backfill. He told the council the contractor intends to place riprap on creek banks and remove the temporary cofferdam near the end of March.
"They're going to start paving the second or third week of April, if the temperature stays warm and the batch plants are up and running," Mayor Beagley said, and added the contractor hopes to open the bridge by the end of April if the weather permits. He also said the contractor reported a need to bring in approximately 15.5 tons of specialized backfill for the structure.
Council members asked whether additional costs would fall to the town; Mayor Beagley said the extra expenses mentioned by the contractor were built into the contract and that the town would not be responsible for unplanned change orders in the items he described.
The council will monitor the schedule and receive further updates at the next meeting.
