Summary
The commissioners approved multiple bid awards for seal-coating, gravel, pit-run and concrete work across precincts, accepted HNC Construction for seal-coating and JRC Concrete for a 12-location concrete package, and tabled a GLO-funded road improvement contract pending final engineer recommendations.
Lavaca County commissioners approved a slate of road-related procurement actions on April 14, awarding contracts for seal-coating, gravel supplies, pit-run materials, screen gravel and a 12-location concrete package.
Roads staff summarized bids from several vendors. For seal coating and resealing the court accepted HNC Construction (bid 1831) for the commonly used options and pricing. The court also approved multiple gravel bids (bid numbers 1826 and 1829 among others) for different precinct stockpiles and delivery arrangements, awarding work to Prahota Gravel and Fred's Contract per the bid schedule. For concrete and labor in Precinct 2 the court accepted JRC Concrete (bid 1830) for a 12-location package.
Commissioners noted that some bridge and road improvements are driven by recommendations from the Texas Department of Transportation and that federal fuel-tax funds distribute through TxDOT for certain bridge projects. For one GLO-funded improvement (GLO contract 24-065-129-E987) the county reported that final engineer recommendations arrived late; the court voted to table that particular award until the next session to review the engineers' final recommendation.
All awarded bids were accepted by voice vote. Staff and commissioners emphasized continued coordination with TxDOT engineers on bridge work and noted the potential for regional cooperation on equipment purchases as TxDOT updates county-level resources.
