Snowville approves firefighter reimbursement, accepts BLM-donated truck; EMS seeks state grant funds

The Snowville Town Council voted March 11 to reimburse a firefighter $1,244 for new tires on the department's black squad truck and heard that the department was awarded a 2016 Ford F-550 through the Bureau of Land Management's Rural Readiness Program.
Fire Department representative Jed Pugsley said the truck will be configured as a brush truck and said it should be ready to enter service when it arrives. "This year, they had four trucks that were available. I put in a grant for that, and just found out on Monday that we were awarded one of those trucks. So it will be 2016, Ford F550," he told the council.
The council approved the $1,244 reimbursement after a motion and second and a recorded aye vote by the councilmembers present.
On EMS, local representative Dave said the ambulance had two recent calls and noted a state program offering funding for rural EMS: "there's $10 million available from the state at 100% funding that they're doing, primarily to Rural EMS that they'll allocate by September 1," he told the council. Dave said Snowville will explore equipment upgrades for its backup ambulance and expects those purchases could be fully funded by the state program.
Jed also asked the council to consider repurposing the department's older truck as a small plow vehicle if the fire equipment is moved to the donated unit. He said the department will begin hydrant inspections as part of monthly training and invited council members to join the first-Thursday training meeting at 7 p.m. to document and exercise the hydrants.
The council also heard routine town-service items including dog licensing scheduled for March 28 and water-department consumer-confidence reporting.
