Board approves 2026–27 benefits plan, coaching stipends and several staffing actions
Loading...
Summary
The board approved a new employee benefits plan (switching to a different trust with Aetna Choice medical plans), updated coaching stipends, a grant-funded College Success Specialist position, and a Dean of Students role at Heritage Middle School. Votes were taken by voice and recorded as approved.
At the April meeting the board approved several personnel and benefits items recommended by staff.
Staff presented a personnel report listing new hires, retirements and changes to extra-duty stipends. The district recommended switching to an insurance arrangement administered through a trust (presenter referenced the Arizona risk retention trust) with medical coverage via Aetna Choice; staff said the change carries a projected 9.6% increase in premiums (roughly $143,000) that would be offset in part by a $5,500 credit and plan design decisions. After discussion of deductibles and plan options, a board member moved to approve the 2026–27 employee benefits plan and the motion carried on voice vote.
The board also approved updated coaching stipends for Heritage and CVHS following a $1,000 base pay increase and confirmed stipend parity across genders. A full-time College Success Specialist position (to be paid from a CTED grant through Mountain Institute) and a Dean of Students position for Heritage Middle School were also approved; staff said the dean position had an employment contract already issued. All items were approved by board voice votes ('Aye').
The approvals were procedural and did not include additional budget allocations beyond the presented recommendations; staff will implement the plan and post related documentation.
