Beardstown council approves two TIF renovation grants and appoints new fire pension board member

At its May 6 meeting, the Beardstown City Council approved two tax-increment financing renovation grants for downtown properties and unanimously appointed Katherine “Katie” Vitale to the Beardstown Fire Pension Board; one alderperson voted against each grant.
Beardstown City Council approved two separate TIF renovation grants and appointed a new member to the Beardstown Fire Pension Board at its May 6, 2025 meeting.
A motion by Alderperson Ron Culves, seconded by Alderperson Dawn Seward, approved a TIF Renovation Grant for Rebecca Hohimer not to exceed $13,558.00 for work at 116–118 W. 2nd Street. The motion passed by roll call vote, 7–1. Alderperson Chris Baer cast the sole no vote.
Later in the meeting, a motion by Alderperson Eric Harbin, seconded by Alderperson Ron Culves, approved a separate TIF Renovation Grant for Ernest Bolen not to exceed $13,925.00 for work at 410 E. 4th Street. That motion passed by roll call vote, 6–2; Alderpersons Chris Baer and Ron Culves recorded the no votes.
The council also approved, by motion of Alderperson Mary Davis and seconded by Alderperson Dawn Seward, the appointment of Katherine “Katie” Vitale to the Beardstown Fire Pension Board for a three-year term ending April 30, 2028. The appointment passed unanimously by voice vote.
Both grant approvals were presented as individual motions and recorded in the minutes with the project addresses and the not-to-exceed amounts listed above. The minutes do not record extended discussion or direct quotes from applicants. The council handled the votes as roll call items under regular order.
The meeting record shows the council approved the consent agenda and the prior meeting minutes earlier in the session and adjourned sine die at 6:26 p.m.
