The Historical Society of Central Florida used its seventh annual Women’s History Breakfast to spotlight the Her Story internship program, which funds paid museum research positions focused on women’s histories in Central Florida.
Lyman Brody, a board member of the Historical Society and executive associate dean at UCF, described recent intern projects, including research on educator and historian Altamese Smith Bentley and work that supported museum exhibits. Current intern Maddie Lopez told attendees that the internship provided hands-on experience creating school activities and helping run field trips: “It has truly been the most amazing experience,” she said, thanking program supporters.
Lauren Bloom, president of the Historical Society’s board, asked attendees to sustain the internship through a fundraising channel displayed on-screen and in the program: the United Artists Collaborative campaign, accessible by texting the word “historical” to 91999. The History Center asked for donations to continue the paid internship and other educational programs; attendees were shown a QR code and given instructions to contribute. The presentation closed with an invitation to visit the museum’s newest pocket exhibition on Altamese Bentley, on display through May 24.
