The Village of Maywood Board of Trustees voted to approve a proposal from the CLFC Group to pursue vacant‑lot acquisition and improvement projects using Opportunity Zone investment tools and a proposed tax moratorium.
Representatives from CLFC — Evan Lewis, David Capana, Ed Kuyper and Wendy Williams — presented the plan to the board and provided details about proposed improvements and financing through Opportunity Zone mechanisms. Trustee I. Brandon urged that such proposals be fully vetted by the Community Development Department before final implementation; the board recorded a 6–1 vote to approve the proposal with Mayor Edwenna Perkins the lone no vote.
Trustees asked staff to return with Community Development review and any required follow‑up documentation at a future meeting. The board's approval authorizes staff to continue negotiations and vetting; specific project agreements, contracts and financing instruments were not finalized during the Aug. 20 meeting.
