Elko council approves airport pavement preservation contracts; FAA to fund majority

Elko City Council approved task order #1 to the master professional services agreement with Wolpert Inc. and accepted the construction contract with Maxwell Asphalt for an airport pavement preservation project.
Airport staff said the project is part of the Airport Improvement Program (AIP) and will rejuvenate airfield pavement surfaces (crack sealing and seal coatings) across most of the airfield. The work is expected to take about 35 working days and will include daytime runway closures coordinated with airlines; staff said they plan to keep at least one runway available for medical flights.
Staff told council the FAA typically funds ~93–94% of such AIP projects with the city providing the remaining match (approximately 6–7%). The task order covers engineering, bid-phase support, construction management and grant administration. Maxwell Asphalt was the lowest responsive bidder for construction.
Council approved the task order and the construction contract on voice votes and staff will coordinate schedule and operational impacts with tenants and airlines before construction begins.
